National News: Continuous heavy downpours since late Sunday night have thrown everyday life into disarray across Chamba district. The region has been hit hard by landslides, road blockages, and serious disruptions to essential services like electricity and water.

Dozens of Roads Blocked, Villages Isolated

As per reports from the District Emergency Operations Center, 39 roads have been rendered impassable across the district. The Tisa region is facing the worst conditions, with 18 roads currently blocked. This has led to many villages becoming cut off from the main administrative center, making relief efforts more difficult.

Power Cuts and Drinking Water Shortage

The relentless rain has knocked out 214 power transformers, resulting in blackouts in multiple areas. Simultaneously, 62 rural water supply schemes have been disrupted, creating a drinking water crisis for a large number of residents, particularly in remote areas.

Homes and Public Property Damaged

At least five homes have suffered structural damage so far. Among them, a mud house collapsed entirely, and two concrete structures were partially affected. Additionally, a cowshed and a small bridge were destroyed by flash floods and waterlogging.

Landslide Claims Two Lives in Mahila Area

A devastating landslide occurred around 3:00 a.m. on Monday in the Dharwala Patwar zone of Mahila subdivision, leading to the complete collapse of a house. A man and a woman inside the house died in the incident. Their bodies were later recovered and taken to the Chamba Medical College for autopsy.

Cloudburst in Tisa: Crops Damaged, More Houses Affected

A cloudburst was reported from Jungra village in the Tisa region, which caused significant damage to standing maize crops. In Kunthed Bhatora and Thana areas, one more kutcha house fell, while two pucca homes sustained structural damage. One partially damaged house was also reported from Bhatiyat subdivision, as confirmed by local officials.

Authorities Urge Caution, Emergency Response Teams Active

In view of the continued weather threat, Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Repswal confirmed that all subdivision-level officers are on high alert and relief teams are working in affected zones.

“We urge residents to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel during these conditions. In case of emergency, call the district helpline 1077 to receive assistance at the earliest.”
